JUDGING

Humans are hasty by nature. We are quick to judge. A situation aggravates us and we rush to condemn without bothering to determine all the facts first. In our haste usually only one point of view is considered. This could happen in our households when children get into a fight. This also often happens when we hear things about people. We don’t stay out of things that do not concern us; then we do not bother to hear the other side of the story either. Thirdly, we also get easily influenced with one sided information broadcast at us through the media. In short, we do exactly what Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) has forbidden, which is to make haste in passing judgment. Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) used to make dua begging Allah, “Enable me to see reality as it really is.”

REPENT

The Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, says, ‘O son of Adam, as long as you call on Me, I shall forgive you of what you have done, and think nothing of it. O son of Adam, even if your sins were to reach up to the clouds in the sky, and then you were to ask for My forgiveness, I would forgive you and think nothing of it. O son of Adam, even if you were to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth, and then you were to meet Me after death, not worshipping anything besides Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as the earth.’” [Tirmidhi] Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) loves it when people ask Him to forgive their sins. He is overjoyed with their repentance, since He hates to punish anybody. At the slightest excuse He washes people’s sins away. The only condition is that the human being must truly regret in his/her heart that they did what they did. The sinner should be ashamed of their misdeeds, and discontinue committing such sins. If the resolve to avoid the sin is not there then one has not actually repented.

The Rich

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Richness does not lie in the abundance of (worldly) goods, but richness is the richness of the soul (heart, self).” [Muslim] There are millionaires who are obsessed with making more money, always worried that their wealth is not going to be enough for them. Their insecurity does not let them enjoy what they are blessed with. Such a person despite having riches cannot be called a rich person. For what good is wealth that does not allow its possessor to feel rich, secure or happy? True wealth is the wealth of contentment. This is a gift from Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) and it lives as contentment in the heart of a person.

Ramadan Kareem

In the Name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful Ibn Rajab, May Allah Have Mercy on him, says in Lata'if al-Ma'arif: In that Satan has been chained up during the month of Ramadan; and the fires of the carnal lusts have died down due to fasting; and the authority of the soul's vain inclination has been placed in isolation, and power has been turned over to the rule of the intellect, which rules justly; the sinner now has no excuse. The clouds of heedlessness! Disperse from over the hearts. The suns of piety and faith! Rise for this new day. The pages wherein are recorded the deeds of the Fasting people! Elevate yourselves. The hearts of the fasters! Be filled with humility. The feet of those exerting themselves strenuously in their devotions! Prostrate to your Lord and bow in humility to Him. The eyes of those passing the night in prayer! Do not sleep. The sins of the penitent! Do not return. The earth of the soul's vain inclinations! Absorb your water. The sky of the elevated souls! Hold back your rain. The lightning of longing for the Divine! Shine for the lovers of God. The intimate thoughts of the Gnostics! Graze in the pastures of Godly bliss. The aspirations of all who love other than God! May you find no contentment with your imperfect beloved. Junayd! Be overjoyed. Shibli! Come quickly. Rabi'a! Listen carefully. During these days the tables of Divine Blessings have been spread out for the fasters, and there is no one who has not been invited to the feast. The Almighty says, "O our folk! Respond to the caller of God." Al-Ahqaf: 31 O the lofty spiritual aspirations of the believers! Hasten. Paradise is for one who responds promptly and attains the blessings. Woe unto whomsoever is turned away at the door, and misses the invitation. May Allah bless us all to respond to the invitation He extends to us during this blessed month. The month of fasting has come, the emperor's banner has arrived, withhold your hand from food, the spirit's table has arrived. The soul has escaped from separation and bound nature's hands; the heart of error is defeated, the army of faith has won. The army of the snorting chargers has put its hand to plunder, from the fire of the strikers of fire the soul is brought to lamentation. The Cow was goodly, Moses son of Imran appeared; through him the dead became living when it was sacrificed. Fasting is as our sacrifice, it is the life of out soul; let us sacrifice all our body, since the soul has arrived as guest. Fortitude is as a sweet cloud, wisdom rains from it, because it was in such a month of fortitude that the Koran arrived. When the carnal soul is in need, the spirit goes into ascension; when the gate of the prison is broken, the soul reaches the Beloved. The heart has rent the curtain of darkness and winged up to the sky; the heart, being of the angels, has again arrived. Quickly clutch the rope out of this body's well; at the top of the well of water cry, "Joseph of Canaan has arrived." When Jesus escaped from the donkey his prayers became accepted; wash your hands, for the Table has arrived from heaven. Wash your hands and your mouth, neither eat nor speak; seek that speech and that morsel which has come to the silent ones.

Prophet Muhamamd (SAW) SAID:

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler.” [Bukhari]

Fasting

Many of us will leave food and water while we are in a state of fasting this month, but let us also make the intention to leave our sins, to leave out the gossip, and to not use impure language. After all, if we are not gonna let food enter our mouths, why let filth fill it instead?......

Judging (Hadith)

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Judges are of three types, two of them will go to the Hellfire and one type will go to Paradise. The one who knows the truth and judges with it – he is in Paradise. One who knows the truth but doesn’t judge by it, will go to Hellfire. The one who doesn’t know the truth and judges between people with ignorance, will go to the Hellfire.” [Abu Daud, Tirmidhi] What the truth is, is determined by Allah (subhana wa ta’ala). He has spelt it out for us in the Shariah, that is the Quran and Sunnah. If a person passes judgment according to his or her own standards of right and wrong, rather than what Allah has declared as right or wrong, then that judge is judging with ignorance.

Learning (Hadith)

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Do not attain learning in order to express pride before the ulema (scholars), nor by its help quarrel with foolish people, nor through it try to overwhelm meetings, but he who does so, his destination is fire.” [Ibn Majah] The purpose of seeking knowledge of the Deen is to be in a better position to seek Allah's pleasure. All Muslims are required to obtain that knowledge by which they may enter Jannah and escape the Fire. Ignorance is not bliss, for we will be held accountable for that which we could have found out. If we acquire this knowledge to seek worldly gain then it will be rejected by Allah (subhana wa ta’ala). Knowledge that is gained so that we may show it off and appear knowledgeable is a source of destruction.

The Smart One

The smart one isn't the one who wins arguements, rather is the one who avoids getting into them in the first place!
